WebsitesWe love to see businesses succeed, so this issue we feature the winners of our Win a Website competition as we look forward to following their journeys in the coming months. You can also get valuable web design tips for your business by downloading your FREE eBook.

Last month, we were pleased to announce the winners of our ‘Win a Website’ competition. After six months of impressive entries (more than 500 in total) – we arrived at 50 small business finalists.

Five websites were up for grabs with each prize package valued at $10,000. Our panel of internal and external experts (including guest judges Matt Forman from Traffika and Ian Krawitz from 10Thousand Feet) each had their work cut out as they reviewed the carefully crafted 500 word entries.

Finally a decision was reached and whilst the winners have contrasting businesses they do all share compelling stories and Kwik Kopy is proud to play a part in increasing the online profile of each business and contribute to their business success.

Website Winners

  • NSW – The Grey Duckling – Vegan cafe and catering business recovering from bushfires
  • QLD – Worklinks Inc – Horizons College of learning and enrichment
  • SA – Parkinson’s SA Inc – Charity organisation supporting people affected by Parkinson’s
  • VIC – Vocal Art Studios – Small business looking to grow online
  • WA – Pancakes at Carillon – Small business looking to develop social media presence

Over the coming months, these worthy winners will be working with their local Kwik Kopy Centres to claim their prize package and give their online presence a much needed boost. We’ll be with them every step of the way following our winners’ journeys.

This month we highlight the first stage – the briefing process – with New South Wales winner Loretta Rose from The Grey Duckling – a vegan cafe and catering business located in the Blue Mountains. They are driven by a passion for nature, delivering seasonal vegetarian and vegan menus sourced from the best local and regional organic produce.

GreyducklingCase Study – The Grey Duckling

The team behind The Grey Duckling has an abundance of creativity with decades of experience in the food, events and arts industry. They offer a boutique catering and events management business that had developed a niche local market over time through ‘pop up’ cafes and catering events. However, dependency on this market proved a financial strain during difficult and unexpected times (such as the Blue Mountains bush fires).

Owner, Loretta Rose recognised that in order to grow the business it was necessary to have an ongoing dialogue with clients and prospects and this could be achieved through an effective website, content marketing strategy and social media presence.

Briefing Process

The first step in redeeming the competition prize (as it would be with any new website) was to meet with Loretta’s local Kwik Kopy Centre (in this case Kwik Kopy Penrith).

“The meeting environment was both extremely friendly and professional,” Loretta said. “It was wonderful to feel that Kwik Kopy was just as excited at the prospect of designing my website as I was myself.”

Kwik Kopy’s briefing process includes questions in relation to a business – including goals and objectives for the website, company logo, target market, design aspirations and ideas for your website and expected timeline for its production.

It’s also a chance to discuss with the client what sets them apart from the competition, explain Google search functions and ascertain the priorities for their business and website.

The Grey Duckling, for example, is keen to grow a loyal clientele to whom they can showcase events including photography, writing and philosophies. They want to feature their new artistic vegetarian and vegan recipes, use their website as a forum to network with local and regional small specialist vegetarian and vegan food producers, promote training programmes for local youth inspired by the events industry, share cutting edge food industry concepts from around the world, historical recipes and events, creative food writings as well as Australian-made and designed event uniforms.

As with many small businesses, this creative team is bursting at the seams with ideas and the Kwik Kopy briefing process provides an opportunity to discuss with the client how to make these ideas a reality and produce an online presence that enables them to achieve their goals.

Loretta says her meeting with Kwik Kopy was full of inspiring business ideas for The Grey Duckling. “Certainly all my expectations were both met and exceeded and I really look forward to working with Kwik Kopy in the following weeks.”
